Hard to believe but winter is almost here...long gone are the halcyon days of yore...long days in the sun, hill repeats, group rides and swapping war stories with friends on the patio, Pickaroons / Pumphouse in hand. Welcome to basement trainer rides or spin classes watching retro TDF videos, heading off to the pool in the freezing cold, and for some, plain old hibernation. For others, the transition into the cold days of winter takes on a different note, highlighted by cross races, mtn bike rides, maybe a tri race in warmer climes, and staying active, refusing to let old man winter take hold of your active lifestyle (as well as adding a few inches onto your waistline).
Whatever road you take, it's time for a reality check. The crappy weather is here. A positive approach, and embracing the changing seasons will allow you to reap the rewards of your increased fitness levels in the new year. It's a perfect time to get out there and take advantage of what is being offered. Maybe even (heaven forbid) try something new? Cross fit, yoga, pilates, x country skiing, snowshoeing..hell, sign up for a zumba or "body pump" class, just keep moving. Of course, don't forget to take some time for yourself and catch up on some projects you kept pushing off in the summer, spend time with friends and family and recharge your batteries.
What is atlanticspeed doing this winter to stay fit? Thanks for asking. Skiing, lots of swimming (gotta improve on my weakest link) and spinning on the trainer will be the order of the day. How about you? Care to share what you're up to for the coming months? Whatever it is, stay warm, have fun and all the best for the "off season"!
