Triathlon Canada - AGM and 25th Anniversary Bash
What a great weekend in Quebec City. Both John R (Triathlon Canada Eastern Regional Representative) and myself made the trek for the 2010 Tri Can AGM and a wicked 25th Anniversary Gala. It was a good chance to meet the Provincial tri reps, the Tri Can Board of Directors, and of course, rub elbows with the big names in the sport, both past and present. It's been years since I have been to Quebec City and almost forgot what a gorgeous place it is, especially in winter. Fun runs in the mornings were organized with local elite triathletes (nothing beats a 7am run in the fresh snow on the Plains of Abraham), focus group sessions and educational meetings took place all weekend and of course, there was the Gala.
Tri Can was very proud to celebrate it's 25th Anniversary and did so in style at The Garrison Club, a very posh venue that we took over for the evening. A gourmet dinner, drinks and the opportunity to meet some of the top contacts, both behind the scenes, and athletes, in a relaxed social setting. Isabelle Turcotte- Baird, Mark Bates, Carol Montgomery, Beijing Olympian Colin Jenkins and 2 time Olympic medal winner Simon Whitfield were also on hand for the nights festivities. World renowned tri coach and commentator Barrie Shepley did a great job as MC and was sure to share some of the key moments in the sport over the past years. Retro videos of guys racing in speedos and no shirts, rocking the Greg Lemond style aerobars? Yup. Olympic moments and recollections from the athletes themselves? Yup. All in all, a fantastic evening.
Tri NB was also lucky enough to pick up a few autographed race suits from Simon, Colin and Paul Tichelaar from their races in Beijing. Very cool...talk about a wicked set of collectors items :) What else? Well, there was a ton of "best practice" sharing with the other Provinces so look forward to even better things from Tri NB and continued enhancements to keep you engaged and participating in our sport for years to come!It was also good to hook up with Glenn Smith from Tri NL and Andrew Dacanay from Tri NS, and see if we can work collectively to grow the sport on the East Coast. We are ramping up for an amazing 2011 season and hope to see you out at the races, as well as joining us online to keep up on all the activity.
