This weekend coming up sees the first Open-water Triathlon of the season in Rockwood Park, Saint John. New Race Director, Boon Kek, and his team, have been working hard to set a great race up in the Port City. Registrations are looking good so why not dust the cobwebs off your wetsuit and come out to the warm waters of Lily lake next Sunday morning for the race.

Rockwood Park KOS- Saturday 07 July

Fees are $10.00 per child or $20.00 for a family entry and age-divisions range from 6-15 years. Refreshments and prizes will be on offer. All kids will receive a Swim cap and a Certificate. Woodstock KOS

Saturday 30 June saw the annual Woodstock KOS at Carleton Civic Center. 65 Kids signed up for various race distances starting at 4 years old right up to the 14 year olds. The kids had to brave hot & stick weather but it was worth it all for the balloon water fight after the race. This is a great community event and its fantastic to see all these kids having a blast.

Items For Sale - from Jon Spinney

I'm trying to simplify my bike portfolio, and I'm wondering if you might know anyone that is looking for a TT Bike? I have a size Medium 2008 Trek Equinox TTX 9.0 that I have literally used 3 times since I bought it new in 2010.

Here's a description:
http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/2008/archive/equinoxttx90

I have the (heavy) stock Bontrager wheelset that came with it - never used.

Other stuff that I would like to move:
Mavic Open Pro wheelset with a (wired) powertap, and a custom fit Wheelbuilder.com disk wheel cover.
Giro Aero Helmet (worn once)
Bontrager XXX Lite Carbon Tubular Wheelset (ebay listing: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120937328781)
Planet X Carbon 50mm Tubular Wheelset (like this: http://www.planet-x-usa.com/pPC50TU/Planet-X-Pro-Carbon-5050-Tubular-Wheelset.aspx)

Feel free to pass the info along to anyone you thin! k might be interested. Prices would be reasonable. I'm thinking $1400 obo for the bike, $600 obo for the powertap set, and $500 obo for the Planet X wheelset. I would discount for people who wanted to buy a package of items...willing to listen to offers.

Flag bearer vote now

Hi,

Hope everyone is enjoying the season so far and Rockwood KOS and the main Triathlon are coming up next weekend. I just have 2 quick things to mention.

Memberships

There are a lot of duplicate memberships for TriNB on the Atlantic Chip site. When you are registering for a race and you have forgotten or lost your TriNB number, you can request an e-mail for your original number, it will read as follows. Click on the "retreive your information and enter your e-mail and your number will be e-mailed to you. Please follow this as there are too many duplicates.

Can't find your membership receipt with your membership reference number1 information? No problem. We can retrieve your information.

Canadian Olympic Flag Bearer

A Triathlete has made the "final 4" of a voting contest to choose Canada's Olympic flag bearer. Quite an honor for
Simon Whitfield, quite an honor for triathlon. The vote is close: Olympic flag bearer: triathlete 49.78%; equestrian 50.22%
This is one click and 30 seconds out of your day. Let's put one of our own over the top. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/interactive/olympics/ Note, it seems to me we'll have to do this twice. Canada started with 16 athletes, it's down to 4, then it'll be down to 2. If Simon makes the finals, I might be pestering you again.

Thanks and see you all at the races over the summer.

Canada Junior Update

Canada’s Andrew Yorke Posts Career Best Sixth Place at Triathlon World Cup

May 8, 2012

HUATULCO, Mex.—Canada’s Andrew Yorke had the triathlon race of his life while finishing sixth at a
World Cup in Huatulco, Mexico on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Yorke, whose previous best international result was a 13th at the Under-23 World
Championships last year, clocked a time of two hours, three minutes, seven seconds (2:03:07).
“This feels pretty darn good. I’m racing to win and it is a huge boost for my confidence,” said Yorke, of
Caledon, Ont. “I really want to show Triathlon Canada, and myself, this year that I belong on the pro
circuit, and I’m not just here to show up. I’m trying to win. That’s what I train to do and I’m not content
on being average.”
Yorke raced with the poise of seasoned veteran from start-to-finish on Saturday. Very comfortable in
the 1.5-kilometre swim despite doing little open water training early in the season, Yorke put himself in
the lead group on the bike where he took a breather for the first few laps before kicking it up a gear
with the top four in the field for the final laps of the 40-kilometre ride.
“It was really hot and I tried to stay hydrated as much as possible with ice and water. I was pretty
much losing the grip on the handlebars on the descent because of how much I was sweating,” said
Yorke. “I got out first on the run, and told myself I’ve never lost a race once I had taken the lead. I kept
the pace honest.”
“The effects of the heat were too much and I started cramping. I tried to hold on for the win as best as
I could, but the lights were going out and I just didn’t quite have it in the end to hang on for the
podium.”
Belgian Simon De Cuyper battled through the extreme heat to win the gold with a time of 2:02:34,
while Ryan Sissons, of New Zealand, was second at 2:02:50. Danylo Sapunov, of the Ukraine,
clocked-in at 2:02:54 to claim the bronze medal.
Victoria’s Matt Sharpe finished 34th (2:07:57), while Andre McCartney, also of Victoria, did not finish
the race.
Bermuda’s Flora Duffy won her first World Cup race in the women’s division after posting a time of
2:13:17.
Manon Letourneau was the only Canadian on the women’s start line, but pulled out of the race
after the second transition heading onto the run.
Meanwhile, Canada’s Amelie Kretz stormed her way to the gold medal in the junior women’s PATCO
North American Championships on Saturday in Huatulco. The Gatineau, Que., native clocked a first-
place time of 1:06.11 in the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike, and five-kilometre run course.
Kretz finished 34 seconds ahead of Mexico’s Adriana Barraza, who finished second at 1:06:45.
Mexico’s Vanesa Dela Torre rounded out the podium in third place with a time of 1:07:27.
Kretz was one of three Canadians to lead the pack out of the water in the talented junior field.
Saskatoon’s Gabrielle Edwards narrowly missed the podium in fourth place at 1:08:55, while Camille
Delamarre, also of Quebec, placed fifth at 1:09:34.
Alexis Lepage, of Gatineau, Que., was the top junior male in sixth spot at 1:00:09. Mexico’s Eduardo
Moreno grabbed the gold with a time of 59:03.

Membership Policy

TriNB are introducing a new Membership policy this year.

It is compulsory that every participant in a TriNB sanctioned event is a Triathlon New Brunswick member, whether you are resident of NB and therefore a Full Member or a Day Member who resides outside NB. In an effort to reduce administration TriNB will be making a $10.00 charge at Race Registration if you are not a signed up member of TriNB by 6.00pm on the Friday evening preceding each event in the TriNB calender (this does not apply to KOS events). TriNB membership is FREE and will take roughly 2 minutes to complete by signing up through the Atlantic Chip website - http://www.atlanticchip.ca/events/details.php?show=892

This is not an Insurance charge, it is an administration fee which will be payable at race registration to the TriNB official. If you do not agree to the $10.00 fee and are not a TriNB member you will not be permitted to compete as you will not have Insurance coverage for the race. Please remember that when you join TriNB you are a member for the full race calender, so sign up once and race all season. Thank you for your help.
