Toronto to Play Host to 2013 and 2014 National Championships

TORONTO—For the first time ever, the Canadian Triathlon Championships are swimming, biking, and running into the country’s largest city following an announcement in February the inaugural Toronto Triathlon Festival will be held on July 22, 2012.

Against the backdrop of Toronto's waterfront, Olympic Gold Medallist, Simon Whitfield, along with representatives from Triathlon Canada and Sports Focused Consulting unveiled the details for the inaugural Toronto Triathlon Festival. The unique event will provide athletes with the opportunity to experience a truly urban triathlon in Toronto.

The race weekend will be a celebration of the ultimate challenge of human endurance and tenacity and ideally a signature event on the North American triathlon circuit. One of the main features of the race is the key role the city itself will play, as the urban race route takes participants on an unprecedented path along Toronto’s harbourfront utilizing the city's downtown highways, passing skyscrapers and iconic landmarks like the CN Tower the Air Canada
Centre and the Rogers Centre.

“I have special memories of racing in downtown Toronto in 2000 and 2001 and I am pleased to have Toronto back in my race calendar,” said Simon Whitfield. “It will serve as an effective tune‐up race for my fourth Olympics in London. I am committed to promoting the Toronto Triathlon Festival to ensure it becomes an enduring legacy for my sport in Canada’s largest city.”
A legacy it will be indeed.

Building on the foundation year, Triathlon Canada has announced it will move the National Championships east to be held in conjunction with the running of the Toronto Triathlon Festival in 2013 and 2014. The move is designed to ultimately grow the sport across the country by attracting participants from all provinces and territories.

TORONTO—Pour la première fois jamais, le Championnat canadien de triathlon se déroulera dans la plus grande ville au pays, d’après une annonce au mois de février que le premier Festival de triathlon de Toronto se tiendra le 22 juillet, 2012.

Contre un arrière‐fond des bords du Lac Ontario, Simon Whitfield, médaillé d’or olympique, et des représentants de Triathlon Canada et de Sports Focused Consulting ont révélé les détails du premier Festival de triathlon de Toronto.
Cet événement unique en son genre donnera aux athlètes l’occasion de prendre part à un triathlon fondamentalement urbain dans la ville de Toronto.
La fin de semaine de compétitions, qui servira de célébration du test ultime de l’endurance et de la détermination humaines, vise à établir l’événement parmi les incontournables en tournée de triathlon nord‐américaine. L’un des principaux attraits en sera le rôle que jouera la ville elle‐même, alors que le parcours urbain amènera les participants dans un tour sans précédent du front de lac et du centre‐ville de Toronto.
«J’ai de beaux souvenirs de concourir au centre‐ville de Toronto en 2000 et 2001 et je me réjouis à remettre cette ville dans mon calendrier de compétition,» a dit Simon Whitfield. «Ce servira d’excellente préparation à mes quatrième Jeux Olympiques à Londres. Je m’engage à faire la promotion du Festival de triathlon de Toronto pour assurer qu’il deviendra un patrimoine durable pour mon sport dans la plus grande ville au Canada.»

Pour bâtir sur l’année de lancement, Triathlon Canada a annoncé que le Championnat national fera escale dans l’est du pays, pour se tenir conjointement avec le Festival de triathlon de Toronto en 2013 and 2014. Cette décision vise à développer le sport à travers le pays entier, en attirant des participants de toutes les provinces et tous les territoires.
