Summer Updates from Tri NB !

Greetings from all of us at Tri NB! We trust that you are having a great summer and have been enjoying the Subaru East Coast Race Series and fabulous events hosted in our Province. It’s hard to believe that we only have a few more races on our calendar. Where has the summer gone? It seems like only yesterday we were getting ready for race season to begin :) It has been a busy few months and we hope that you’ve been able to put your triathlon skills to good use this year through ongoing training and participating in the race series.

As you are aware, recently the announcement was made to cancel the Mactaquac ½ IM race scheduled for August 28, 2011. You may have even noticed media coverage about it on the TV or radio. Needless to say, we are all disappointed but please trust that the decision to “pull the plug” this year was not made lightly. In speaking with Mike Davis, Race Director, every effort was made to proceed with the event. Unfortunately, considering a number of overwhelming factors outside of our control (including, but no limited to: road access, RCMP insurance policies and liaison with the community, and most importantly – safety of our athletes) we were unable to hold the race this year. We are confident that theses external factors will be overcome shortly and the race will be back on the calendar in 2012. We realize that a number of athletes were aiming for this race, with some stepping up to the ½ IM distance for the first time, and that the cancellation was both unexpected and “unwelcome” based on tweets and feedback. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, due diligence has been done and removing the event from the calendar was the last resort, and all attempts made to provide as much advance notice to participants as possible. We are proud of our race series and working alongside our Race Directors, make every effort to ensure the races not only go off as planned, but are professional, safe and fun. Refunds for those athletes who had registered will be issued via cheque by end of week. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued support and understanding.

On another note, we are looking forward to a wicked weekend at Parlee Beach! A great venue, pasta dinner, cash prizes and gift cards? Oh yeah. It will be awesome. Hot on the heels of Parlee is Sackville followed by the Fundy H2O race. It’s been a tremendous summer so far and thank you to everyone who has helped in its success. From Race Directors, to volunteers to athletes to spectators…we cannot do it without you.

Stay tuned for updates in the near future about our upcoming 2011 Tri NB AGM and Banquet! The past two years have been great events and this year will be no different. A tremendous Guest Speaker, prizes, great food, and a chance to regroup after a busy season with all your tri buddies? Check. The date is set, the venue is booked…we will be back in touch shortly giving you plenty of time to book it in your calendar and join us for the fun and festivities. And of course, stay in touch with us on our blog, website, Facebook and twitter for all the latest and greatest!

Until next time, train safe, have fun and we’ll see you at the races!
